02 Maxima with 140k miles, burning a quart of oil per week...?

My brothers car needs a new engine. I'm amazed by this. He says he's had them put synthetic oil in it regularly. Why would a Nissan motor burn up so quickly? Is this common for this car? His lifters and rings are shot apparently. How much can he expect to pay for a used Maxima engine?02 Maxima with 140k miles, burning a quart of oil per week...?
Synthetic oil won't make an engine go bad....unless it's not changed. It has become an article of faith that ';made in Japan'; means ';lasts forever';. They make good stuff, but if not taken care of, won't last. A running engine is around $1500 in a metro area. Good luck, and don't just cut all the wires. Unplug them, put tape with numbers on it, and unplug the replacement as well.02 Maxima with 140k miles, burning a quart of oil per week...?
a used engine with labor and parts would be in the 1500 dollar range...but first go back to regular oil and see if the oil use goes down......syntetic oil is thinner and regular oil is a little thicker and may reduce the oil use.....its worth a try
does it burn it or leak it. synthetic oil will leak out faster than any thing else due to a smaller molecular structure.
possable cause bad piston rings if car smokes or bad valve seales does car leak oil?
Really cheap from a junk yard...$600 at the least. Rebuilt or refurbished...$1200-1600.
