I have been reading about repairing a leaking oil pan drain plug with teflon tape.?

My question is how much and where. I figured about 5-6 wraps right after the plug washer but not the whole length of the plug, correct?

Also, another answer explained about a water hose washer, use it between the pan and the drain pan washer?I have been reading about repairing a leaking oil pan drain plug with teflon tape.?
if the plug is stripped out (keeps turning never get tight enough) then new plug kit. If the hole in the oil pan is stripped new oil pan. Now if it just leaks even when tight you could just wrap the threads in teflon tape from the plug washer to the end of the threads. There may have been a small rubber gasket on the plug that feel off or rotted away. Cheap fix would be to get a small piece of cork gasket material and cut it out to the shape and size of the washer. This would be installed between the oil pan and the washer.

All I would say is try it and see whats works for you.I have been reading about repairing a leaking oil pan drain plug with teflon tape.?
Teflon tape might work but not for long. It is the gasket between the bolt head and pan that seals the drain. You can buy just that gasket at an auto parts store. If your drain plug is stripped out, you can get an oversized plug and it will tap new threads for itself as you screw it in.
uh, a new bolt WITH gasket is only a few bucks. fix it right the first time. you can spend more on the teflon tape that the oil is gonna break it down in 3000 miles anyways and leak all over again.
just replace the washer and make shure the threads are good.

if they are not you can get a self taping plug from napa
if the threads aren't stripped buy a new factory plug and gasket
