Is there a real benefit (or possible harm) in using a magnetic oil drain plug?

I just came across magnetic oil drain plugs on the Internet and would like to know more about them.Is there a real benefit (or possible harm) in using a magnetic oil drain plug?
I recommend magnetic plugs to everyone. Even under normal conditiond, engines do naturally produce metal by-products from wear and tear. A magnetic plug grabs these metal particles and holds them so they do not get circulated back through the engine. They do no harm while being held on a piece of magnet in your oil pan while they can do gobs of harm going through the system.

********Before there were a such thing as magnetic oil plug, mechanics had another way of accomplishing this. Most oil pans also used to be made of metal. Long time ago, I used to keep a bunch of small magnets around my shop. On my regular customer's vehicles, when I changed their oil, I'd stick a magnet somewhere out of the way near the bottom of there oil pan. It done basically the same thing as the magnetic oil plugs. The oil plugs work better though because it puts the magnetic INSIDE the oil pan in a way that it can't move anywhere. Because of road bumps, the ones I used to stick to the pan would sometimes fall off.Is there a real benefit (or possible harm) in using a magnetic oil drain plug?
It wont hurt anything, they're great, cause after you un screw it,it sticks so it dont fall in the oil pan,you un stick it and it's alot cleaner, for your hands,i fucin hate when it falls in the pan, then ya gotta fish it out of hot oil.
so what did the Internet say? If you change your own oil there's a possible benefit to having them. If you check for chips every time you take the plug out, and you find a lot of metal chips what is it going to tell you?
engines do come apart a little at a time as we drive the magnetic plug keeps the particles from going back through the motor many vehicles have them from the factory
There is no harm in using a magnetic drain plug. The theory is that if any metal fragments fall into the oil pan, then the plug will attract them.
I'd say they are good to have as they collect any wear and tear metal from the Oil... and thus helps the Filter that ';little'; much more...
there great as they will take out small metal particles floating in the oil, won't hurt your car one bit.
No harm but maybe good.

Your filters do an adequate job.
They are great !!!`
