Help -- two crush washers on oil drain plug... what is the worst that can happen?
I changed the oil today on my sportbike today. When I drained the oil, I couldn't find any crush washer, so I figured it was lost somewhere in the old oil and put a new crush washer on.
Now I am starting to think the old washer was still on the bolt. People with the same bike say that the old washers can be very hard to get off... you will have to pry the old one off with needle nose pliers and then cut the washer with something in order to get it off the plug.
Is it bad to have two crush washers on an oil plug? What could happen? This is a motorcycle so if the plug backs out while the bike is running the oil will end up on the rear tire.... and that can get ugly! But on the other hand it's definitely not leaking while the bike is off.Help -- two crush washers on oil drain plug... what is the worst that can happen?
You are over thinking this -
Drive it - if it drips, take it back off, get a new single washer %26amp; put it on.
If it doesn't drip, do it right next oil changeHelp -- two crush washers on oil drain plug... what is the worst that can happen?
if u have to crush washers on it and it's tight the most it will do is drip a little, but if not tight enought it could vibrate loose and you know what hapens to engines with no oil in them.
I do now that nowadays a lot of auto manufacturers and maybe others no longer use a gasket washer . They use a drain plug that once removed must be replaced with new. Maybe the reason you didnt have one in the first place.

I just got a used Raptor 350 need to change the oil, what size is the drain plug? I don't think I have the correct size socket and I don't want to strip the bolt. thanks Oil drain plug size for raptor 350 atv?
try the sockets, you never know, one might be the right size, you will want to make sure it fits on the plug pretty snug though, just don't beat it on with a hammer
